Pick by what you play on

The graphics card decides how smooth your games feel more than any other part, so it is where most of a gaming budget should go. The right one depends on one thing first: your monitor. A 1080p screen and a 1440p screen need very different cards, and paying for a 1440p card to play at 1080p is money that could have gone into a faster processor or a bigger SSD.

  • 1080p, esports and older games: an entry card like the RTX 3050 8GB or RX 6600 is plenty.
  • 1080p, new AAA games on high: RTX 5060 or RX 9060 XT 16GB. This is where most people should buy.
  • 1440p, or 1080p at 144 Hz and up: RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070.

Entry 1080p: esports and older games

If you mostly play Valorant, CS2, Fortnite, GTA V or Minecraft, you do not need a big card. The RX 6600 (about ₹54,700) is the faster of the two in most games; the RTX 3050 8GB (about ₹34,900) gets you DLSS, which helps in newer games.

The 1080p sweet spot

For new games at high settings, these two are the cards to look at. The RX 9060 XT 16GB (about ₹67,700) has twice the video memory, so texture settings can stay high for years. The RTX 5060 (about ₹67,600) is often cheaper and has DLSS 4 with frame generation.

1440p and high refresh

A 1440p monitor shows a lot more detail, and it needs a card with the muscle and memory to match. The RX 9070 XT (about ₹1.43 L) with 16 GB is the stronger card for the money; the RTX 5070 (about ₹1.29 L) wins on ray tracing and DLSS support.

1440p cards

Before you buy: three quick checks

  1. Power supply

Make sure your PSU has the watts and the right power cables. The PSU calculator tells you in a minute.

  2. Processor

A fast card behind a slow processor wastes money. Check your pair in the bottleneck calculator.

  3. Case size

Compare the card's length with the space in your cabinet. Most two-fan cards fit any mid-tower; big three-fan cards may not fit small cases.
