Buying RAM: common questions

How much RAM do I need for gaming?

16 GB is enough for most games today. 32 GB helps if you stream, keep Chrome open while gaming, or edit video. 8 GB is too little for new games.

DDR4 or DDR5?

Your motherboard decides. AM5 and Core Ultra boards only take DDR5. LGA1700 boards come in DDR4 or DDR5 versions. The two don't fit in each other's slots.

Is one stick or two sticks better?

Two sticks (for example 2 x 8 GB) run in dual channel and are noticeably faster in games than one 16 GB stick.

What speed should I buy?

DDR5-6000 CL30 is the sweet spot for Ryzen. For Intel, DDR5-6000 to 6400 is good. For DDR4, 3200 to 3600 MHz.
